PR Rock Stars: A conversation with Jason Kintzler

One of the very interesting dynamics of engaging online is meeting folks in real life that you’ve only followed and interacted with on Twitter and other social platforms. Yesterday, I had the pleasure to meet Jason Kintzler, CEO of PitchEngine, in person. And I was not disappointed. Genuine, personable and “social smart”, Jason lived up to expectations.

I even stole a few moments with him right after his keynote address to discuss the future of the traditional news release, how smaller brands are using PitchEngine as a tool to tell their story, and one nugget you might not know about the social media/PR thought leader.

Nice interview, although I'll have to disagree with Jason on a couple of points.

I still think there's a huge market for "traditional" releases. SocMe releases are great hubs of info for extra content, but they very rarely have the distribution clout of the major wires (unless they're part of major wire service).

I would also say that SocMe releases were being picked up before Pitch Engine. There's no doubt PE has made SocMe releases more visible and reasonably easy to put together. Yet there are many other outlets that were doing SocMe releases prior to PE, with some great results.

PE is a great service but I'd use SocMe releases as *part* of a complete PR strategy (including traditional outlets), and not the sole focus.
