The last few months I’ve provided you with my Follow Friday recommendations through this video blog–along with context behind why I follow each person.
Today, I thought I’d try something a little different and give you the “how to” behind my broader follow strategy. If you notice from my profile, I don’t necessarily follow everyone who follows me. That’s by design. I have a strategy. And a focus. And I thought I’d share some of those tips with you all. Let me know what you think.

I agree with Edward. It is why I've taken my #FF recs to my blog. It allows me to recommend as many people as I want, but also include a brief description as to why anyone who reads it should follow that person. I think it's a more useful exercise than listing as many names as you can in 140 characters.

LikeAgree completely on FF, Edward. That's exactly why I've tried some new things as of late, including this post. To be honest, this was probably my last in this particular series.
My personal opinion of video: I think it's an invaluable way to better connect with your community, audience and colleagues. On this blog, it gives me a chance to communicate and share in a different way than I can through a written post. And let's be honest, people get to see your face. You can't underestimate that. I realized how important that was when I went out to BlogPotomac and spent a few days with a ton of folks I had met online, but never met in person: Sonny Gill, Amber Naslund, Allan Schoenberg, Amy Mengel, Beth Harte and Matt Batt. I instantly felt better connected with those individuals due to the face time we had for the better part of two days. Video allows me to do the same thing--just to a lesser extent. I'm always looking for new ways to connect and communicate through my blog, so I think you'll see more video and other interactive elements in the months ahead.
And I'd love to see you try to video, Edward. Heck, if our friend David Mullen can do it, you can, too! ;)

Some good thoughts. For me, however, FF has lost it's appeal. Seems as if it's got spammy, with people just making lists, offering no context, and often doing so simply in hopes of getting a reciprocal FF. I am working on a piece in which I recommend the 20 or 30 people whom I think newcomers in communication (pr, adv, SM) need to follow and why, including what they offer, what's on their blogs, etc. Finally, would love to know the reaction you get to using video. I avoid it, as being Type A, I have a hard time sitting through it so don't like to ask others to do the same. But do you think it makes you more personable? Or helps reader/followers get to know you better? Thoughts?

LikeHaha, it's Tim Jahn (pronounced "John") - I've been joking with Tim about this since I found out :)
Thanks for the shout, Arik, and I really respect and appreciate your trust. Let's hit these beers soon, okay?
Have a great weekend fella, best to you and yours. :)
