Help a PR Pro Out Day is a little more than a week away. As many of our partners and supporters post about the event this week, I wanted to take this chance to feature a few of the active PR job seekers that I’ve been supporting right here in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Today, I’d like to start with my friend and PRSA colleague, Kasey Skala.

Name: Kasey Skala

Bio: Born and raised in Minnesota, Kasey ventured down south to Iowa for college. He graduated from Drake University with a degree in public relations and marketing and his PR background spans from non-profit, finance, promotions and internal communication. He also spent two years as a journalist for a daily news publication. Additionally, he’s helped integrate new media strategy for clients in non-profit, education advocacy, beauty/health and the food and entertainment sectors.

Key digital stats: Blogs at The Electric Waffle and iFinance; Twitter handle: @kmskala; LinkedIn profile; guest moderator for #u30pro.

Why should you hire Kasey: Personally, I think any agency in town would be wise to hire Kasey. Fast. OK, so he’s not the traditional agency candidate. But you know what? Given the current climate and the evolving skills of today’s PR pro, I’m not sure that matters any more (I’m sure some will disagree). Kasey’s skills would play beautifully in an agency setting. He’s a creative problem-solver (check out the idea he executed last year attempting to gain the attention of one local employer), shows initiative (he consults on the side) and is a great community builder online. Definitely the kind of guy I’d want on my team if I were an agency leader.

I know the name of Kasey but know little about him. Thanks for sharing, but that's not the point of my comment. The fact I know his name is testament he is saturating himself to many places for me to know his name. That can only be a good thing.

Arik, thank you for featuring me in the post. It's greatly appreciated.

What you and Valerie (and all others helping out) are doing with #HAPPO is wonderful. For someone with a new business, there are plenty of other things you could be focusing on. To go out of your way to help others - this isn't the first time - is a sign of your character and passion for the PR space. So, thank you!

Paul & Lisa - Thank you for the kind words. Please know that the admiration and respect is mutual.

Thanks all!

Lisa: Thanks for the kind words about Kasey. I know we're both big fans. Now, someone hire this guy. NOW! Or, I will!

Arik - This is great! It's really fun to see HAPPO in action.

I'd like to say a few words about Kasey, if I may. I am lucky enough to know Kasey personally and professionally. We have served on the Minnesota PRSA Communications committee for more than a year, recently both accepting co-chair roles on the committee.

Working with a team can go one of two ways in my experience. Either you have good, like-minded and efficient team mates, or you don't. I can't stress enough how amazing it's been to have a partner like Kasey to work with. He's organized, articulate, great in a pinch, good at planning and executing our various (and many) communications initiatives, constantly innovative in his thinking and all while being really laid back, calm and flexible.

Additionally, Kasey and I ride the traditional and digital PR divide, looking for opportunities to bridge the two where possible. I love collaborating on this topic with him regularly, as his insights and practical application continue to amaze me.

Kasey inspires me regularly, has helped me develop ideas, makes himself available to help the public relations community locally and nationally.

Summary: Kasey is good people and a phenomenal professional!

Seconded! Thanks for stopping by, Paul.

@arikhanson

I had the pleasure of meeting Kasey for lunch yesterday. We had a great discussion about PR, online communications, and the financial industry. He is definitely someone to speak to about communications strategy in today's multi-channeled communications environment.
