What’s the one iPhone app you can’t live without?

Other, PR

For the last two years, I’ve been a Droid owner. I bought the original Droid the day it came out. It was a thing of beauty–at the time. But, over time a number of things started to really bug me about the phone. The battery case kept falling apart (I wasn’t the only one with this problem). Sound quality on calls was rough. And, even as far as the Android app market has come in the last year, it still pales in comparison to the *quality* of iPhone apps.

In the meantime, we’re a full Apple family. Two MacBooks. One iMac. One iPad. And an Apple TV.

The iPhone was inevitable.

So, last week I broke down and pulled the trigger. Bought the new white version, too. And, I immediately ordered this case.

Now, all that’s left to do is learn how to use the damn thing ;) Oh, and figure out what apps work best and fit in my work routine and lifestyle. Off the top, I know I’m going to be a heavy Posterous user with my new BadAssShoes blog (and others). I’ll probably also use Pandora a fair amount. Crackle, too. But, I was curious what other apps other people like me use.

So, I started asking PR and marketing folks like me the simple question: What’s the one iPhone app you absolutely cannot live without?

Here’s what I heard:

Sarah Evans: Hootesuite

Jennifer Schmitt: Wall Street Journal

David Murray: Evernote

Jeremy Pepper: TripIt

Jillian Froelich: Beer Cloud (I’ve always liked Jillian :)

Alex Tan: Pulse News

Kevin Watterson: Google Reader

Rochelle Veturis: Twitter/Yelp

Todd Defren: Yelp/IMDB (also mentioned: Angry Birds. Echofon. Flixter. Weather Channel. Kindle)

Mary Barber: Twitter (also, Grocery IQ)

Patrick Strother: MLB (also, Twitter)

Narciso Tovar: Seesmic (also, Pandora and Words with Friends)

Kate O’Reilly: Tweetbot (also, Things)

Chuck Hemann: Skype

Mark Ragan: Compass

I just discovered Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything" app. It's based on the book, and seems to contain all of the recipes- there are hundreds of them.

Yes, I love this topic. Joe from Livefyre here. I see you've already met jennalanger but from everyone else in SF, welcome to the team! I'm shocked that no one mentioned Instagram or Foursquare. I don't know what I would do without pictures and check-ins. Enjoy BW!

Tweetbot. Also, for podcasts, Instacast! You'll never go back to iTunes for podcasts.

angry birds of course.

All of them. I use a Blackberry

Imagine ME being ahead of YOU on an iPhone. Got rid of my Droid Incredible when I downloaded an app that wrecked havoc on phone. My fav apps are: Find Phone, Gas Buddy, MapQuest, Flashlight...and of course, Angry Birds!

What app was it so I know to stay away from it.

For a self-employed business owner I recommend INRIX Traffic, Foursquare, Google Calendar and MinnMix. Yelp and Best of City Pages are also good for quick business lunches on the fly!

Thanks, Colleen. Haven't heard of INRIX or MinnMix but will be checking them out now.

Binaural Beat. It takes White Noise a step further by playing Alpha/Beta waves subsonically. Knocks me out every time. :-) Also, I use Mobile RSS for my blog reading. Epicurious, All recipes, and Crock-pot all have nice apps when you don't know what you want for dinner and want to pick up ingredients on the way home. And Angry Birds is a must! :-)

Haven't heard of Binaural Beat--will check that out. Sounds interesting.

My favorite app is Happy Tapper's Gratitude Journal. Every night before going to sleep I reflect on the day, finding moments for being grateful. It's super cute and useful.

Haven't heard of Happy Trapper's Gratitude Journal either, Lynnette. Thanks for sharing!

TripCase and White Noise - "Baby Editon" (ppl. w/a newborn would understand - good for baby and good for mommy)

There's something to this White Noise thing--multiple people have mentioned this to me. Our babies are a little older now, but worth checking out for other purposes, I'm sure ;)
